Overview
Consumer trends have had a significant impact on urban logistics. One key trend is the rise of e-commerce and online shopping, which has led to an exponential increase in package deliveries to urban areas. This surge in demand has put pressure on logistics service providers (LSPs) to develop more efficient and responsive last-mile delivery solutions. Consumers' expectations for fast and convenient deliveries have also influenced urban logistics. Same-day or next-day delivery options have become the norm, requiring logistics companies to optimise their routes and leverage technology to meet these expectations. However, these requirements translate to challenges faced in pickup and delivery operations involving multiple parties such as sellers, warehouse operators, mall operators, LSPs and consumers. Furthermore, resource constraints at locations frequented by multiple LSPs can lead to congestion, necessitating coordinated planning. Therefore, there is a need for a system or method that can efficiently generate optimized routing schedules, coordinate schedules among multiple LSPs, and simultaneously ensure the privacy of each LSP to achieve agility, speed, environmental consciousness, and efficient utilisation of urban logistics resources.
Our Innovation
To address the challenges mentioned, a Collaborative Urban Delivery Optimisation (CUDO) platform has been developed to reconcile the schedules of different logistics service providers (LSPs), resulting in improved efficiency, service levels, and sustainability. This innovative collaborative planning resource tool allows participating LSPs to collaborate, form partnerships, share information, and pool resources to achieve common objectives. It provides an AI platform that LSPs and retailers can collaborate to fulfill last-mile B2B logistics. The AI algorithms support collaborative delivery planning and scheduling that involve a large set of complex business and operation objectives as well as constraints by multiple LSPs and mall operators. Overall, the B2B last-mile delivery will be optimized in cities faced with challenges of traffic congestion and fragmented logistics.
Our innovation features the followings:
- Delivery Planning - that allows input of orders for optimization planning.
- Dock Reservation - that provides auto-reservation of docks upon acceptance of engine's recommendations.
- Visual Analytics - that analyses dock utilization, vehicle movements and wait times.
Benefits
As a resource planning and scheduling tool, CUDO offers the following benefit for logistics service providers:
- Customer Focus - meet customers' delivery service requirements.
- Maximum Utilization - maximise vehicle utilisation and reduce operation costs.
- Balanced Workloads - balance drivers' workload across the fleet.
- Reduced Resources -reduce total time and distance travelled to minimize carbon footprint.
- Simple Workflow - simple to use, guided workflows for minimal operator errors.
- Number of saved trips help to reduce carbon footprint.
- Optimisation of routes help to maximize earning potential for a driver/rider.
Applications
The underlying AI technology to support collaborative planning resources can be applied in:
- E-commerce and Retail
- Logistics and Supply Chain Management
- Transportation and Distribution of Goods & Services.
