Overview - Need

In workspaces and commercial buildings, lighting represents a significant portion of energy consumption after HVAC systems. However, current lighting solutions often lack efficiency and fail to adapt to occupancy levels and varying lighting needs. There is a need for an intelligent lighting system that can reduce energy consumption while maintaining occupant comfort by automatically adjusting lighting intensity based on occupancy and natural light levels.

Our Innovation - Approach

Our technology introduces an occupancy aware smart lighting system that leverages existing CCTV surveillance cameras and AI-based algorithms to optimize lighting conditions. By analyzing camera images, our system non-intrusively identifies occupied areas, estimates luminance levels, and adjusts the intensity of controllable LED lights accordingly. This approach eliminates the need for additional sensors or equipment, making it a cost-effective and practical solution.

Benefits

  • Significant energy savings: Our smart lighting system reduces lighting energy consumption in workspaces and commercial buildings.
  • Fine-grained occupancy tracking: Provides real-time, table-level sensing of human occupancy within a given area.
  • Cost-effective implementation: No need for additional sensors or equipment purchase, as the system utilizes existing CCTV surveillance feeds.
  • Sustainable operations: Promotes energy conservation and sustainable practices in built environments and indoor spaces.

Applications

  • Smart buildings and commercial spaces: Our technology is suitable for various indoor environments, including offices, coworking spaces, restaurants, and libraries. It enables these spaces to conserve energy and optimize lighting conditions for different occupancy levels.
  • Urban solutions: The system can be deployed in public spaces, such as parks or streets, where surveillance cameras and controllable LED lights are present. It enhances energy efficiency and creates well-lit environments for the public.
  • Coworking spaces: The technology is particularly valuable for coworking spaces that experience varying occupancy levels throughout the day. It ensures that lighting is adjusted according to real-time occupancy, improving energy efficiency and user experience.
