Have You Ever Heard of Lion's Mane, Coloured Oyster or Pioppino Mushrooms?
While these may be unfamiliar to most of us, but to SMU alumnus Ryan Ong (BBM 2019) and the founder of Fogo Fungi, they represent his newfound passion for mushroom farming.
Featured in Singapore’s Straits Times, Ryan’s mushroom farming journey began when he started to recognised the importance of food security during the Covid-19 pandemic. With no prior experience in this field, he went through extensive research on mushrooms farming from volunteering at local vegetable farms to working at an insect farming start-up dedicated in valorising food waste. His hard work paid off.
Today, Fogo Fungi has secured a pilot facility in Tuas, where their dedication to sustainability and innovation towards mushroom farming continues to thrive.
We’re thrilled to be part of Fogo Fungi’s journey! They joined our BIG 2023 cohort in the SMU Institute of Innovation & Entrepreneurship incubation program, SMU Business Innovations Generator by IIE (BIG)!
