A BILATERAL COMMITMENT
BUILD A BETTER FUTURE
First proposed in 2018 by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and then-Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, the Singapore–India Hackathon is a bilateral platform designed to deepen collaboration between the academic, innovation and start-up ecosystems of our two nations, now in our 61st year of diplomatic relations.
Hosted alternately in Singapore and India, previous editions have been held at Nanyang Technological University, the Indian Institute of Technology Madras, and the Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar. Each edition brings 120 students into cross-border teams to tackle real industry challenges while building friendships, startups, and solutions that last well beyond the hackathon.
The 4th edition, hosted by SMU's Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship in collaboration with the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), takes place at SMU's campus in Singapore from 15–17 November 2026. Powered by a suite of AI tools, teams will tackle challenges across four key innovation sectors: FinTech and InsurTech, sustainability and climate, emerging technologies, as well as social innovation and inclusive development. Senior officials from both country’s Education Ministries will join students for the award ceremony and gala dinner co-hosted by TiE Singapore.
