Malware threats are growing, especially for Android devices. This tech tackles this with a two-pronged approach. The Side Channel Monitoring tool empowers users to detect suspicious app behavior, like unauthorized camera access or hidden data transfers. For institutions using third-party developers, the Fine Grain Analysis tool offers in-depth analysis of apps to identify hidden malware, even when inactive. This ensures app safety before deployment and helps developers catch malicious code in libraries. Future versions aim to work on desktops, eliminating the need for physical devices during app certification.
With the support of a commercialization grant and guidance from the Knowledge Transfer & Commercialisation (KTC) of IIE, Prof. Debin Gao has successfully advanced his NSOE-funded research project, "Fine-grained Dynamic Analysis and Scalable Static Analysis for Android Applications," towards commercialization.
