As SMU celebrates her Silver Jubilee, the Institute of Innovation & Entrepreneurship (IIE) has continued to deepen our impact across venture building, talent development and ecosystem partnerships.
To date, our flagship incubation programme the Business Innovations Generator (BIG) has incubated 597 startups and raised S$875M in cumulative funding. New partnerships include BIG x Stellarate with SMRT and the Kajima–SMU Startup Award to support startups in built environment and sustainable urban development.
We also expanded international pathways for students through Global Innovation Immersion, with 69 internships were completed across 55 companies in 20 global cities, including world-class tech ecosystems across Japan, Korea and China.
The Jay & Marilyn Ng Greenhouse was transformed into a vibrant hub for learning, co-working and networking, hosting more than 7,000 visitors, 120+ events and 16 startup residents. Our team also advanced knowledge transfer and commercialisation with new spin-offs, licensing agreements and trademarks.
Lastly, the flagship 12th Lee Kuan Yew Global Business Plan Competition drew a record 1,500+ applications from over 1,200 universities across 90 countries, alongside the launch of our new Urban SustaInnovator accelerator.
